Right about now, as we roll into Thanksgiving in less than two weeks, and we begin to feel the chill, you may be leaning towards pulling out your sweaters and long pants, covering up any exposed body parts that were kissed with the summer sun. But not for long As you know here in California we can get away with stretching our summer wardrobe well into October and in some cases, November too. And just after the new year, winter fashions get replaced on the rack with that new spring look. But before you know it, it will be that time again to trade in your warm fuzzy cover ups for a more ‘skin revealing’ trend. What would you say if I asked you... “Are you planning on ‘waxing’ unwanted hair over the winter months before those new spring fashions come early March?” It know it sounds a bit early to ask about waxing in November. Actually, the way hair grows is this: Hair growth goes through three different stages that can take up to 4-12 weeks to cycle through. Hair inequality All hairs are not created equal because each hair may be in a different stage at any given time. Three stages of hair growth The first stage is when the hair grows and is nourished deep within the dermis. The second stage is when the hair starts to decompose and detach the root from the follicle. The final stage is when the hair is released and the follicle rests, preparing it again for new hair growth returning to the first stage. How waxing works Waxing is a temporary hair removal method that will actually weaken the hair bulb and in some cases hair ceases to grow back, but only if it is in the first stage of hair growth at the time of waxing. So it can take up to three months to remove all the hair that is in the first stage, making follow up maintenance waxing easier and less painful. That is why waxing every 4 weeks, within a 12 weeks span will ensure a hair free start as the weather warms up for the big 'skin reveal’. Don’t let December go by without getting a ‘head start’ on hair removal! As we end our first semester on December 6th*, there are still two more working spa weeks left to schedule a waxing. I invite you to check out my calendar this week and the week after Thanksgiving to schedule your head start winter appointment. Looking forward to seeing you! Diana
